It is decorative in nature but can at times display the function of the structure.

Alfred Pommer was born and raised in New York City and has lived here all his life. He’s been a self-employed licensed New York City guide since 1990 and has created over 20 neighborhood walking tours in Manhattan focusing on architecture and history along with several neighborhood tours featuring gargoyles. Alfred is also the author of four New York City neighborhood guide books published by The History Press (Arcadia) that explore a neighborhood’s history & architecture
